  • Nigiri Sushi

    Nigiri Sushi

Sushi (寿司, 鮨) is a Japanese dish of specially prepared vinegared rice (鮨飯 sushi-meshi), usually with some sugar and salt, combined with a variety of ingredients (ネタ neta), such as seafood (most commonly and often raw), vegetables, and occasionally tropical fruits. Styles of sushi and its presentation vary widely, but the key ingredient is "sushi rice", also referred to as shari (しゃり), or sumeshi (酢飯).

  • Miso Soup

    Miso Soup

Miso soup is a traditional Japanese soup. It's base is "dashi" (Japanese fish stock) and Miso paste. Common added ingredients are Tofu, Green onion and deep‐fried tofu but differs by personal preference. The type of miso is different from region. In western and Easter Japan white miso is mostly used.

Cooking Class Information

You can be a SUSHI MASTER! and learn basic Japanese ingredients, easy and practical cooking ways, and food culture in my lesson. We will cook rolled omelet, miso soup, and three types of sushi, like nigiri sushi, traditional rolled sushi, and California roll.
Firstly, I will show you how to make sushi rice and “dashi” which is a traditional Japanese soup stock made from fish and seaweed. After that, we will make sushi, rolled omelet and miso soup. Finally, we will eat all dishes together after finishing cooking.
The class will be held in a small kitchen at my home so you can feel cooking with a local friend and know ordinary Japanese life.

WHAT TO EXPECT
・Understand basic Japanese cooking methods and ingredients
・Learn how to prepare all the ingredients to make sushi like making sushi rice and slicing fish with a Japanese sharp knife
・Make 3 types of sushi by yourself
・Learn how to make dashi broth, and rolled omelet and miso soup using the broth

My lessons are not only about watching demonstrations but also putting them into practice as I want to give you enough information to help you cook them again when you return home. Moreover, I can suggest which ingredients are better to use instead of Japanese ones since I struggled to get them while living abroad. After finishing the cooking class, you will get a recipe PFD file or paper.

【Note】
* Please kindly let me know if you have any special dietary requirements.
* Children ages 4 and up are welcome to our classes. However, they must be given strict parental supervision since there will be something dangerous such as hot stoves and sharp knives in the kitchen.
---------------------------------
We apologize for the inconvenience, but due to the reservation system, the dates 4/9, 4/16, 4/18, 4/25, 5/16 and 5/20 are listed as available for reservation, but cannot be reserved due to another class being scheduled.

All cooking classes by Saeko

Hi, I am Saeko. I've run my own cooking studio and taught over 500 foreign guests in English since 2018, as well as working as a professional food stylist and recipe creator.
I was born and raised in Osaka, and live with my husband, a year-old kid, and a small bird java sparrow. I used to work as a Japanese chef in Denmark and traveled to 21 countries. Living abroad, I got to experience cooking and teaching my foreign friends how to cook Japanese foods and we could know each other through the experiences. It was an unforgettable memory. And, I am really passionate about exploring or discovering food and learning the ways of cooking. I would like to share my cooking knowledge and skills and talk with everyone from all over the world!

We had the best time with Saeko! She was very friendly, punctual, we experienced no language barrier issues, and would highly recommend taking a cook class with Saeko. She even sent us all the recipes for us to cook back at home. This is also a great idea for when the weather is bad. Thank you so much, Saeko!
